‘Thousands of Nepali creators are in crisis due to lack of Facebook monetization facility, let’s negotiate with Meta’
Kathmandu. CPN (Maoist Center) MP Gyanu Basnet Subedi has said that thousands of content creators have been financially affected due to the lack of Facebook page monetization in Nepal.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, she demanded that the government immediately hold formal talks with Facebook to resolve this problem.
“Thousands of content creators have been financially affected due to the lack of Facebook page monetization in Nepal,” she said. “This is hindering job creation, digital entrepreneurship, and even access to Nepali content at the international level.”
She said that talented people in the digital sector are at risk of leaving the field as those who create content using their creativity, time, and resources are unable to earn money from it. “Since creators are unable to earn money from the content they create using their creativity, time, and resources, it has become difficult for talent to flourish in the digital sector,” she added.
She stressed that the government should take diplomatic initiatives to resolve this problem. “To resolve this, the government should hold formal talks with Facebook and implement the monetization facility in Nepal as well,” she said.
She expressed her belief that if the monetization facility is available, Nepali content creators will be able to compete internationally and self-employment opportunities will be created for thousands of youth.
