Satellite service available on Android phones

Kathmandu. Chip maker Qualcomm has finally announced the name of the Android phone maker that will provide Snapdragon Satellite service. On the occasion of Mobile World Congress 2023, the company said that the satellite connectivity feature will be available on Motorola, Nothing, Honor, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi.

After the launch of the iPhone 14 series, the satellite connectivity feature gained more attention. Through this, help can be sought in emergency situations even from places where there is no mobile network support. The company has said that this feature will be included in every upcoming processor as well as Snapdragon 4 series to 8 series chipsets. This means that this feature will soon be available on mid-range, high-end and premium category Android phones.

What is Snapdragon Satellite ?
Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon Satellite last January. Like Apple’s Emergency SOS Via Satellite feature, it also helps users send and receive messages in an emergency. When using the satellite connectivity feature, the phone connects to Iridium 66 satellites placed in low orbit and transmits messages.

Currently, the X70 modem included in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor helps to connect with such a satellite. So that the mobile is directly connected to the satellite and the user can use it in case of emergency (when lost in a place where there is no network).

The first Android phone to bring satellite connectivity
While Qualcomm is announcing a partnership to bring the Snapdragon satellite feature, Motorola and Bullitt Group have released the first Android phone with this feature.

MediaTek’s satellite connectivity feature on the Motorola Defy Two can be used through the Bullit satellite messaging service. Similarly, Motorola also has a compact satellite link device. Through which the satellite connectivity feature can be used on any Android or iOS device.
